As I mentioned in an earlier entry, we spent the weekend up in the Sierras on a back country hiking trip. The Sierras are full of granite. It’s a very hard and rough rock. Perfect for climbers looking for that challenging pitch. But, not so perfect for a poor dog’s paws. Too much time spent scrambling along on the granite will wear the pads off.
So, Hairy got a gift. A new pair of “Ruff Wear Bark ‘N Boots”.
After his imitation of a kitty walking in wet grass (see video) the initial confusion wore off he and he was happily running around with the boots. He even swam without problems. The boots even provided enough traction on low traction surfaces.
The only thing to watch out for are the boots rotating or sliding down. At one point on the trail, Hairy stopped and lied down. He refused to continue. We thought he was too tired but then we noticed one of his boots had slid down a little and was caught under his dew claw. He never indicated a problem with that boot. He just gave up hiking. Oh, and tricked us out of some turkey jerkey while trying to “revive” him. Once the boot was adjusted he happily continued on.
Cheers!
