Event: 2007 Carrera de San Rafael Criterium

Another really fun event and at the venue where I did my first criterium. I won a prime that time. Ah, those were the days. Well, back from dream land and into the reality of this year’s race.

I spotted Mike “Vanderhoot” up on the podium warming his chops for his announcing role. I told him I would be easy to spot since I would be the caboose hanging on for dear life.

Sure enough, half way through the race a break got the pack all riled up and we were strung out nose to ass for three laps. And I was just where I thought I might be. Swinging my lantern at the end of the train.

Luckily the pack slowed a bit and I was able to feed some oxygen back to my deprived body. The race after that was a blur of surges and recoveries. By the five lap to go count the pack pretty much realized there was no bringing back the guys off the front. So we kept up pace but there wasn’t much an effort for last bit.

So the caboose didn’t become uncoupled, managed to finish, and got a shout out from Mikey.
